Seiko Celebrates 30 Years of Initial D Limited Toyota AE86 Chronograph Watch
Model: Seiko x Initial D
Japanese watchmaker Seiko has released a new chronograph watch in collaboration with the legendary street racing manga, Initial D.
The new timepiece is being released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the manga’s original serialization, which began in 1995.
Initial D, created by Shuichi Shigeno, is a hugely influential series that had a massive impact on the global JDM car scene, telling the story of the quiet high school student Takumi Fujiwara and his rise in the world of mountain pass “touge” racing.
This new watch is a high-end, limited-edition item with a design that is heavily inspired by Takumi’s iconic car, a black-and-white Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, often referred to as the “Hachiroku.”
The watch’s dial features the car’s signature “panda” color scheme.
Its subdials are designed to look like the gauges on a car’s instrument cluster, and a small detail even mimics a high-beam headlight indicator.
At the four o’clock position, the watch features the famous “Fujiwara Tofu Shop (Private Use)” logo, the same text that is written on the side of Takumi’s car.
The small second hand at the six o’clock position features a “D” logo, representing both “Drift” and “Dream.”
The watch is a limited edition, with production capped at 1,995 pieces, a number that honors the year the manga first began.
Each watch is engraved with a unique edition number on its caseback.
It comes packaged in a special collector’s box, which also features the black-and-white panda color scheme and a color illustration of Takumi and his Hachiroku on the inside.
The watch is made in Japan from stainless steel with a curved hardlex crystal.
